Store splash: MemoArr!

Memo…ARRR! You flipped over the wrong card again!

To play the match-and-memory game Memoarrr!, 2 to 4 players need the power of recollection and the luck of pirates. Only then can they make their escape from the island of Captain Goldfish, their pockets lined with rubies, before the lava swallows them up.

In turn order, players reveal locations that are connected via the animal or the landscape to the most recently revealed location. If someone reveals a location without any connection, that player is out of the round. The last remaining pirate grabs one of the valuable treasures. Then, all revealed locations are turned face down before the search can start afresh.

As the cards do not change position during a game, players collect more and more information each round, enabling them to reveal new connections — but sometimes a little bit of luck is all it takes to get that treasure.

For advanced players, each animal comes with an additional special action that is triggered when a connected location is revealed — and they make Memoarrr! even more exciting and fun to play.

Store splash: Drop It

Circles, triangles, squares and diamonds: Drop It is about letting go, with the pieces you drop landing somewhere in the vertical game board, ideally where they’ll score the most points, but the tiles bounce around and don’t always land where you expect them to!

In more detail, each turn the active player drops one of their pieces into the slot of the game board. The player scores points for the highest level that the piece touches and for any special locations that it touches, but if the piece touches anything of the same shape or color, then you score nothing! What’s more, certain pieces are forbidden at certain spots on the edge of the playing area.

Store splash: Circular Reasoning: Well of Power

Circular Reasoning is an abstract strategy game developed by two students at the University of Texas at Dallas, Tomer Braff and Edward Stevenson, under the name “Giant Shoulder Productions”. After being featured at IndieCade 2014, Circular Reasoning was then picked up by Ad Magic and is now being published under Breaking Games.

The board consists of a goal in the center and three concentric tracks of 16 spaces each. Each track has a gate to the next level, but the gates rotate around the board according to the number of tokens found in each level.

Each player gets a square, a triangle, and a circle, which move four, three, or two spaces respectively. In addition to racing toward the center, tokens can be used to block other tokens from using the gates to advance. Because of this, players must predict and work around their opponents moves to secure victory.

Store splash: Compounded/Geiger expansion

Compounded is a game about building chemical compounds through careful management of elements, a fair bit of social play and trading, and just a bit of luck. In Compounded, players take on the roles of lab managers, hastily competing to complete the most compounds before they are completed by others – or destroyed in an explosion. Some compounds are flammable and will grow more and more volatile over time; take too long to gather the necessary elements for those compounds and a lot of hard work will soon be scattered across the lab.

Although Compounded does involve a fair share of press-your-luck tension and certainly some strategic planning, the most successful scientists will often be those who strike a good trade with their fellow lab mates. Players are able to freely trade elements, laboratory tools, and even favors – if there is truly honor among chemists!

Compounded: Geiger Expansion, the first full expansion for the chemistry board game Compounded, gives experienced scientists even more to consider in the lab with the introduction of radioactive elements and compounds. As productivity in the lab increases, so does the chance for radioactivity levels to rise. Scientists have to keep a close eye on the geiger counter or else risk the lab becoming too radioactive in which to work.

The Geiger Expansion introduces a new, interactive paradigm to the base game of Compounded as players now sometimes have to work together to eliminate or reduce the threat of radioactivity. Of course, those players with a propensity for causing chaos have even more methods at their disposal, ensuring that each game is exciting and dynamic.

Store splash: Wanted: Rich or Dead

Howdy pard! Heel yourself with a proper six shooter and prepare for a real shootout.

In Wanted 3-5 players will take on a roles of an infamous Old West characters and shoot their way to the riches. Each turn the players are secretly choosing one of the five locations they’re heading to. After revealing the cards, the characters can use the special ability connected with that location – you can rob a Bank, buy something useful at a General Store etc. Unless of course two or more players choose the same spot – then it comes to a shootout with only one gunslinger winning at the end. The player who have the most money at the end, wins the game.

Wanted is a fast and fun experience with tons of interaction. Each character has his own set of 5 cards, which allow him to move and are also used during a shootout. Although there’s also a luck factor involved with a single dice used to determine the outcome of shooting abilities, each character plays differently and has his own strengths and weaknesses. You can try to get the best items and use them to your advantage, try to avoid other players and steal as much as you can or just go straight into a fight to stop the other players from using the locations’ abilities. The choice is yours but remember – this town is really small and you’ll eventually find yourself in the midst of a shootout.
